There is no simple, inexpensive, single test that will tell you if your water is safe to drink. Bacteria, organic compounds, heavy metals, and other inorganic compounds all have detrimental effects if found in sufficient concentrations.  The fewer items included in your drinking water test, the greater the uncertainty of the safety.  In other words, when you want a water test, you actually are talking about a battery of water tests.  You have to look for the known hazards.  You can't simply guess, and declare the water source safe.

I need to test a well (real estate)

I have a cabin in the mountain. What water test do I need?
